i’m still working out a few kinks, finalizing some stuff, and trying to put new content. but the site’s pretty much functional already. all updates will be done there from now on. thank you very much to all the visitors for making my blog lively for the past two years. hope you stick around for more. God Bless!

This blog will soon be closing… okay, not really closing but moving to a new host and I already bought a domain for it. Uhm it’s not technically going to be moved, just continued elsewhere… the old posts will still be here while all the upcoming new posts will be over there. It won’t take a genius to figure out what the domain is ;-) So excuse me while I try to figure out how to start it off over there and how to go about the “move”… my mind’s all confused I can’t think straight. Seriously, I think I need some help… I don’t even think that I’m making sense over here. Reading about the technical stuff really messed up my head. Gimme one week to figure it all out. Ciao!

Let me tell you about last week… i got sick (again) over the weekend. and i wasn’t the only one, a couple of friends caught the cold, too… as well as a few people from work. but that didn’t stop me from seeing The Dark Knight during the first day it was shown in theaters… Thursday to be specific. What an experience it was!
Much like the previous Christopher Nolan-helmed installment of the series (Batman Begins), Knight was dark, even much darker than its predecessor. The acting was top-notch from all the characters, and most notably Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker. Every time he appeared on-screen he stole the show, that’s how good he was… people in the theater were hollering and applauding when he did something amusing, they hushed up feeling the intensity when he was menacing and borderline-psychotic with his mind-games. One of the best, if not the best movie of the year. Watch it if you haven’t done so already.
For most nights last week I was also watching the 4th season of 24 on DVD… and finished it by friday night. I now realize that that was probably the reason why I felt like the problems of the world were on my shoulders, coz I was worrying too much about how it would all be resolved. I made their problems my problems as well… gosh, a freakin’ TV show got me that messed up haha. I even dreamed about them in my sleep… how stressful! Jack Bauer and the rest of CTU got me all worked up and exhausted by the end of the 24th hour… sheesh.
And as if The Dark Knight wasn’t enough entertainment-fare… I also saw Book 3 of Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender series come to an end, 3 seasons wrapped up in one truly awesome series finale last Sunday called Sozin’s Comet. Four episodes bundled up into an hour and a half movie… it was sooooo good that it made me sad coz there will be no more new episodes, no more adventures with the benders (and swordsman, haha). I’ll surely miss Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Momo, Appa, Suki, Ty Lee, Mae, Iro, Azula, etc.. Its the end of an era. *sigh*
So much for having a life, what with all these THINGS going on hihi. But I sort of neglected the blog (again), sorry. Here are some songs to make up for that… a few new ones, a re-release, some not-so-new ones, new discoveries from myspace and one that came into my attention lately because of a certain TV show. Doesn’t matter… they’re all good songs according to my powers of selection.
[[[Jay Nash - Over You]]] Discovered him through his myspace last week. Folk/Pop/Alt artist who’s new album The Things You Think You Need includes guest appearances by Sara Bareilles and a couple of members from the Counting Crows on a slew of tracks. I like it, gentle lulling stripped down honest music.
[[[O.A.R. - Shattered (Turn The Car Around)]]] O.A.R. is short for Of A Revolution… they’ve been around for many years and is quite known for their impressive live performances and ability to jam onstage. New album All Sides, unfortunately fails to capture that energy, but in my opinion the album is good. This is only the second album from them that I’ve heard and their last one disappointed me but this one I actually like. I’m still on the lookout for their older albums though because those are the best ones according to the hardcore fans… but darn I can’t find those anywhere here. any of you out there wanna help out? Anyway, the song right here is their first single from the current release, and its a damn good pop-rock song. “how many times can i break till i shatter? over the line can’t define what i’m after. i always turn the car around. give me a break let me make my own pattern. all that it takes is some time but i’m shattered. i always turn the car around.”
[[[Sister Hazel - World Inside My Head (Live Acoustic)]]] This is one of my favorite bands. They released a compilation of their best-known songs some time ago in a live acoustic format, its called Before The Amplifiers: Live Acoustic. Get it!!! It is awesome! I was having trouble picking which song to put here so this is just a random pick, and yet the song is goooood. “i feel better when i paint my days / with purple seas and left out grays / strange is just a different point of view / but the paint on me is beginning to dry / and its not what i want it to be / so wait on me / wait on me.”
[[[Keith Urban - You Look Good In My Shirt (New Version)]]] An old song from Keith’s multi-platinum Golden Road album but in a new mix/version, currently tearin’ up the country charts. Can’t blame them for re-releasing this one, it’s a high-energy and fun tune… no wonder fans go crazy when Keith plays this live.
[[[Matthew Ryan - Dulce Et Decorum Est (Fade Edit)]]] Another Matthew Ryan song… sorry, just tryin’ to promote the guy. I finally heard the album MRVSS (Matthew Ryan Vs. The Silver State)… great piece of work, one of the year’s best releases.
[[[Anouk - Lost]]] Saw a contemporary dance routine to this song on So You Think You Can Dance a few weeks ago [watch here]. The dance was beautiful, from Gev Manoukian and Courtney Galiano (she’s hot!!! I’m in love!), and the song caught my attention. It’s from 2006, but that doesn’t matter… this is beautiful.
[[[Greg Laswell - What A Day]]] I looked him up on myspace because I heard him do a cover of a popular Cyndi Lauper song that turned the song into a somber ballad. I was impressed with what I heard. This is from his E.P. released late last year.
[[[Griffin House - The Guy That Says Goodbye To You Is Out of His Mind]]] Great song from this relatively low-key singer-songwriter. I can’t find any of his music anywhere. The only ones I’ve heard are from his myspace and another song on the soundtrack to a TV series called Everwood from a few years back. We need to know more about Mr. House. hehe. The title of this song alone should be enough to urge you to listen up.
Have a good weekend you guys!

I’ve got a headache and it’s not the light kind. I suspect I’ve got hypertension… sheesh I don’t wanna get all these health problems at my *ahem* very young age. So anyway, amidst my hectic, tiring, crazy schedule these days I was able to get on Yahoo Messenger for about an hour or so earlier tonight… just to check out who among my friends were online.
I got to chat with a good friend who now lives in Australia… haven’t talked to him in a long time. As usual, topics bounced off from the pointless to the uber-serious. Kumustahan to the max. What was interesting was something that we both thought is happening to our world… we both feel that the world is probably ending soon. Heck, even his Iranian friend has sensed it and has already made plans to go back to his country. Don’t call us crazy, we don’t need you telling us we are because we know we aren’t… not totally anyway haha. The world is full of problems, life for everyone has gotten much harder, and nature isn’t cooperating (global warming, etc.).
A thought crossed my mind… if the world is indeed ending soon, I don’t want it to end in chaos (world war, natural disasters, fighting, etc.)… I’d rather it end with the whole of humankind united… like if we were attacked by aliens and the world rose up together to fight… hahaha I’ve gone mad coz of my headache. Speaking of alien attacks, the trailer for the new movie The Day The Earth Stood Still came out a couple of days ago. (See what I did there? Nice segue oh yeah, I rule!!!) The new movie stars Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly, among others. And its about… well I think I already gave it away (or did I?). Watch it below.
I am sooo watching this come December. While I was watching this on *yooootoob*, I noticed the trailer for the 1951 version of the movie was available, too. Yes folks, the film is a remake. Watch the trailer for the original version [here]. It made me laugh, not in a way that mocks the 1951 version of the movie… I was just amused at how far technology and film-making has come in terms of technique and special effects since way back then. I hope the movie is good… finally, something to look forward to in December other than Christmas season and New Year and Misa De Gallo and… yeah.
This is still a music blog, primarily, so here are some songs in a mix that doesn’t really have a theme… the mix of songs start off a bit folky, then bluesy, then alternative-y, rock-ish, progressive, then electronic-y. You be the judge… I love these songs, I can tell you that much.
>>>Jakob Dylan - Something Good This Way Comes<<< This is from Jakob Dylan’s debut solo album called Seeing Things, which is out now. I emphasize *solo* because he has a band called The Wallflowers, for those who didn’t know. Jakob is Bob Dylan’s son… still for those who didn’t know. I don’t mean to be so all-knowing and stuff, just felt like saying it all because I have nothing much to say… I’m too lazy to look for info. I have not heard the album yet but I heard two tracks from him through his myspace and I liked what I heard. This song is one of those two tracks. Sounds to me like Jakob was having a good day when he wrote this… the lyrics certainly present that imagery to detail. This is the folky track i referred to above. The album was produced by veteran producer Rick Rubin.
>>>Amos Lee - Street Corner Preacher<<< This is, in my opinion, the best track on Amos Lee’s third album Last Days At The Lodge which came out last month. I don’t like the album it as much as his first two releases, but its growing on me more and more with each listen. The sounds on here range from folk to bluegrass to country to blues to r&b… though that makes it sound like its all over the place, the songs are actually cohesive. This is the bluesy (also folk-y and bluegrass-y) track i referred to above. “He got a new mercy, a new grace/ street corner preacher with the angry face/ he got two years off for good behavior/ back in the neighborhood working for the savior” … the song’s obviously a narrative. The album was produced by Don Was.
>>>Thriving Ivory - Angels On The Moon<<< There’s hype about this band. I haven’t bitten it yet. They don’t sound too special to me. I like the song though, and the fact that the piano is part of the band’s sound. The singer’s voice is unusual and unexpected. And with lyrics like these, maybe I’d soon be singin’ praises for these guys…“Don’t tell me if I’m dying, ’cause I don’t want to know. If I can’t see the sun, maybe I should go. Don’t wake me ’cause I’m dreaming of angels on the moon… where everyone you know never leaves too soon.” Nice!
>>>Matthew Ryan - It Could’ve Been Worse<<< This guy’s grossly underrated. I only know a few songs from him and I like most of them. My favorite is “Return To Me” from his CD Regret Over The Wires. This one was the first single from his current new album Matthew Ryan Vs. The Silver State, an album I have yet to find. I say ‘was’ coz it was released some months back, but I didn’t realize that I didn’t put it up yet. It sounds so Bruce Springsteen meets Bob Dylan meets Marc Cohn, if you ask me. I love it! “So you stood on that bridge overlooking old crappy town. Snow was falling slowly all around. You smoked a quick cigarette. But I’ll never believe that you jumped and just ended there. The note you left read ‘look everywhere’ and ‘you’ll never bury me’.” Makes me wonder who its about.
>>>Lifehouse - Broken (Radio Version)<<< Finally, this is getting released. It’s the 3rd official single from Lifehouse’s album Who We Are and it is my favorite on there next to “Storm”. I’m still not over this song, been playing it for over a year now. The new version of “Broken” has new vocals from Jason Wade and edgier radio-ready production. Doesn’t matter, this or the album version, either way the song is awesome! I really wanna go watch their concert in Manila on July 26 but I am currently in too much of a financial crunch for that… huhuhu. Bad timing. I’ll just settle for the CD for now… love this band! “The broken clock is a comfort, it helps me sleep tonight. Maybe it can stop tomorrow from stealing all my time. I am here still waiting though I still have my doubts. I am damaged at best, like you’ve already figured out.”
>>>Seether - Rise Above This<<< I thought this was just generic rock, till I listened to the lyrics. Its actually well-intentioned if you knew the story behind this song. Written by the singer after the death of his brother. Its from their current album Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces (i like the title). “Hate the mind, regrets are better left unspoken. For all we know, this void will grow and everything’s in vain, distressing you though it leaves me open. Feels so right, but I’ll end this all before it gets me. Call your name every day, when I feel so helpless. I’m fallin’ down, but I’ll rise above this… rise above this.”
>>>Mogwai - The Sun Smells Too Loud<<< I have heard of this group(?) before, just never bothered to try them(?) out till a friend sent me one of their songs last March. It was called “Take Me Somewhere Nice”… a very good song to put in the background when I’m wallowing in my depression. Though that song has vocals, this one right here doesn’t. Because this group(?) is an instrumental group… progressive rock, right? They(?) have a new album coming out in September called The Hawk Is Howling. Check out the titles of their songs, they’re very creative. This one is not an exception. “The Sun Smells Too Loud” has an electronic feel to it and is quite nice. Mid-tempo background music for… i dunno… washing your car and just looking at it because gas prices have gone way up high to go driving… or something. Listen to it but don’t expect any words. :p
>>>Cary Brothers - Ride (Tiesto Radio Edit)<<< The song’s from 2006, but this version is from this year. Tiesto gave new life to Cary Brothers’ “Ride” and it sounds excellent… a different flavor from the original version but equally great. If you haven’t already, check out Cary’s album Who You Are… a fine collection of great music from one of Zach Braff’s legion of tune-smiths he calls friends. “You are everything I wanted, the scars of all I’ll ever know. You saw all my pieces broken, this darkness that I could never show.”
’til next time… enjoy!

What else can I do?
I said I’m sorry, yeah I’m sorry.
I said I’m sorry , but what for?
If I hurt you then I hate myself
I don’t want to hate myself, don’t want to hurt you
Why do you choose your pain?
If you only knew how much I…
You read my eyes just like your diary, oh remember, please remember
Well, I’m not a beggar, but what’s more
If I hurt you, then I hate myself, I don’t wanna hate myself, don’t wanna hurt you
Why do you choose that pain? If you only knew how much I….
I won’t be your winter
I won’t be anyone’s excuse to cry
We can be forgiven
I will be here

Here we go again… 4th season of So You Think You Can Dance has been on for the past five weeks (i think?) and still I can’t help but watch for obvious reasons… if you’ve been visiting the blog regularly in the past you’d know. I saw this contemporary routine and my jaw dropped… it’s another intense one. Choreographed to perfection by the awesome Mia Michaels, and beautifully executed by contestants Joshua and Katee… the song is Adele’s “Hometown Glory”.
[dl: Adele - Hometown Glory]

You’ve got me baited
The hook’s in my mouth
But I don’t want to let you know
You see, I fall so slowly
Like leaves in the air
It’s tearing me to bitter end
I guess there’s no way to make love not break our hearts
And you’re fueled on failure
The mistakes we’ve made
And regrets we’ve saved
Have all scarred
Too deep to heal your wounds
It’s strange how it goes when nobody knows you’re not alive
I guess there’s no way to make love not break our hearts
song: Why We Cry At Movies /band: As Tall As Lions

[random song for the day - "Shut Up and Let Me Go" by The Ting Tings]

Yes I do. Sorry for the lack of updates dear readers, passers-by, music fans, and stalkers. Life happened… a lot of drama, twists and turns galore. My dad got hospitalized and is now getting weekly treatments for an ailment… the company I work at is undergoing some major changes and is currently in a whirlwind state financially… a typhoon hit my city and a ship sank coz of it, leaving hundreds dead and many missing. But its not all bad news in my world… a good friend of mine got engaged a few days ago (though thats not 100% good news… there was a time when I liked her as more than just a friend and now I can’t help but wonder ‘what if?’… hahaha joke! =P ), i found a new source of ‘inspiration’ (you know who you are hehe), and finally, after three months of evaluating if I’m ready for a Mac or if I should stick with a PC… i bought a new laptop… decided on impulse (ack!). Check it out…

Its an HP Pavilion dv2700 Special Edition. I’m likin’ it so much coz its glossy finish makes it look oh-so-new hihihi. Bought it on 12-months installment at 0% interest… good luck to me paying it off for the next twelve months. But yey coz I’m finally on a fast machine. No offense to my old laptop, I’ve had plenty of good times with my now obsolete Asus one but it has slowed down sooo much over the past six years. Back to my new toy… its 250gb hard disk space is a joy… I’m currently downloading a lot of movies and believe it or not… cartoon tv series/shows from my childhood days… Transformers, Voltron (Lion Force), Visionaries, and X-Men. What else were there… Silverhawks? Thunder Cats? lol. I’ve been finding myself in a very nostalgic state these days.
Thanks to those who continue to drop by even with the lack of updates. I miss you guys. haha! And oooh yesterday my blog got its 400,000th hit so yeeey!!! Here’s to more hits and posts and comments and interaction and ideas in the future. I’ll be back to posting music really soon, hope you guys could stick around for that. Here’s something to wet your musical senses… a teaser of sorts… just something random.
[Song: "Gone In The Morning"] Artist: Newton Faulkner Album: Hand Built By Robots Label: Sony BMG Remarks: This has got to be the catchiest song I’ve heard this year… you can’t help but sing along to it. Catchy phrasing, catchy melody, catchy lyrics… great song to wake up to in the morning even though its about sleeping and dreaming and asking why dreams go away in the morning. My favorite lines to sing along to… “I’m gonna master all kinds of kung-fu / I’m gonna live inside a tiny zoo / I’m gonna grow myself a giant afro (incredible fro) / When the alarm goes off I just won’t know” hahaha beat that!

It is 5:30 in the morning on a saturday and I am blogging. I need to get a life hehe. So here’s what happened this week in my life… I became an uncle again. My brother and his wife just had a new baby boy last thursday. Haven’t seen the little critter yet, but I’m gonna today, whoopee! Congrats to them both. What else… oh, I sort of acted like a travel agent/adviser of sorts for a friend who’s flying to Japan this coming sunday. It felt really good, maybe I should put up a travel agency… maybe that’s my calling. I’ll have to think it through now… I’m past due for a career overhaul.
Just some comments on the songs: Nas & Keri Hilson’s Hero… blazin’ hot collabo from Nas’ upcoming Untitled album. The Hot Rod, Tila Tequila and B Dozier song is so dirty haha, i have not heard anything dirtier so far this year… but it is such a jam. Ben Franklin’s Overdose is probably a demo recording because the song is supposed to be sung by a girl (based on the lyrics), its kinda awkward hearing a guy sing “i can make the boys overdose” lol… but despite that and the song’s cliched lyrics, its still hot. Busta Rhymes’ Don’t Touch Me is the song featured in the ACDC Cru’s first video for the biggest dance-off in youtube history… you know where to find that video, right? Ne-Yo’s Crazy is sexy with its seductive and slithering beat, a song from his upcoming Year of The Gentleman album. Gym Class Heroes goes farther from their ‘band’ sound in this collabo with The-Dream… the song’s hook reminds me of Buy U A Drank from T-Pain but after you get past that all we have is a damn hot song. Lady Gaga & Colby
O’Donis… its a RedOne production, and its already a hit… very catchy pop. The Game and Travis Barker… rocked out hiphop. My man Robin Thicke’s new single channels Shaft’s 70’s spy groove and puts a modern sheen on the sound… awesome new single from his new album coming out soon called “Something Else”. Mariah’s I.B.L.U.L.T. now features T.I., finally they released a good single from E=MC2… now let’s all pretend that the lifeless “Bye Bye” was not released at all. Kenna… heard of him when a friend of mine was reading a book called Blink… nice production from The Neptunes, with talented rapper Lupe Fiasco spitting a few verses. The rest of the songs are either hot joints or smooth slow jams… even though u probably don’t recognize the artists, you’ll be surprised with what you’ll hear. We end the mix with a couple of feel-good r&b tracks from Bobby Valentino and Chris Brown. Dance class anyone? Coming soon… mix 3.
